Masala Vadai
All time favorite Masala Vadai as a super lite snack
Preparation time: 20 mins
Serves: 4
Ingredients
Chana dal: 2 cups
Onion: 3 nos
Green chillies: 4 nos
Ginger: 1 inch
Sauf: 1 tspn
Cinnamon: 1/2 inch
Cooking oil for deep frying
Mint leaves(optional): 10 leaves
Coriander leaves: 10 strands
Curry leaves :10 leaves
Rice flour: 1 tblspn
Salt as per taste

Pre-preparation
- Soak the dal for 2 hours
- Finely chop the onions, curry leaves,mint leaves and coriander leaves
Method
- Grind the soaked dal,reserving 1 tblspn of dal along with green chilly, ginger, sauf, cinnamon and salt
- Grind coarsely without adding any water
- Take the ground mixture into a mixing bowl and add the chopped onions,coriander leaves, curry leaves, mint leaves, rice flour, reserved 1 tblpsn dal and mix well
- Check for seasoning
- Heat oil in a kadai for deep frying
- Once the oil is heated, wet your hands and take a lemon sized ball of the mixture,flatten it slightly and drop into the oil
- Keep the flame in low to medium and fry until the vadai turns golden brown in colour
- Take out the cooked vadas into a draining vessel and serve hot
Authentic South Indian snack Masala vadai is ready to eat
