Medhu vadai, ulundu vadai or uddina vade

Tasty and healty medhu vadai for a perfect South Indian breakfast



Preparation time: 20 mins
Serves:4

Ingredients:

Urad dhal:2 cups
Pepper:  1 tspn
Onion : 1 no
Green chilly: 3 nos
Ginger: 1 inch
Rice flour: 1 tblspn
Rava: 1tblspn
Curry leaves: 10 leaves
Oil for frying
Salt as per taste

Pre- preparation:


  • Soak the urad dhal for 3 hours and wash it before grinding
  • Chop the onions  and curry leaves finely
Preparation: 

  • Heat the oil in a kadai and let the oil heat up in medium flame 
  • Take a mixer grinder, add pepper,ginger,green chilly and washed urad dhal, grind into smooth paste by adding 1 tblspn water 
  • Take the ground batter in a mixing bowl and add Onion, rice flour,rava,salt  and curry leaves and mix well
  • Wet the hands and take a lemon sized batter and make a small hole on the middle and dip in the hot oil 
  • Keep the flame in  medium flame and fry the vadai till it becomes golden brown in colour
  • Take out in a dry plate and serve it hot 
Hot and crispy medhu vadai or uddina vade is ready to taste

Best eaten with dipped in Sambhar or with chutney
